Here at FarmTek, we understand the benefits of growing within a high tunnel. It adds consistency to your crops, lengthens your growing season and promotes locally grown produce. Thankfully, we are not the only ones that see these positives of high tunnel crop production. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has also noticed these advantages and has taken an initiative to encourage more farmers to grow in a high tunnel or hoop house. The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) funding was established to encourage season extension of high value crops. NRCS funding is available through the 2014 EQIP Seasonal High Tunnel Initiative to all growers and is a great option for those looking to fund or purchase a high tunnel. Read more

After receiving hundreds of submissions to our photo contest, we wanted to share with you some of our favorites. These photos may not have won a prize, but they still stood out and we felt that we needed to recognize them. We smiled, we laughed and we were awed by some of these great pictures and the stories we received with some of them. There are seven superlative categories and we selected a winner for each. These customers will each receive a dozen pair of our FarmTek Dot Grip Gloves! We hope you enjoy these photos as much as we did!

For Your Livestock
With the drought across the country, we know many farmers are struggling to provide feed for their livestock. It’s times likes these when technological advancements such as hydroponic fodder systems are the most significant. Our Fodder-Pro 2.0 Mini Feed System is now available. A “mini” version of the full system, it can produce up to 125 lbs. of fresh, nutrient-rich fodder each day in a system footprint of only 56” wide by 122” high by 120” long. Feeding fresh fodder to livestock offers a variety of health benefits, including improved milk production in dairy cattle, higher fleece appearance in fiber goats and alpacas, higher energy levels in horses and more.
The results are in! After much debate and a whole lot of photo admiration, our team of judges has chosen the grand prize winner and runners-up for our 2012 Photo Contest. We’d like to thank everyone that shared their great photos and thoughtful testimonials about our products.
Without further ado—here’s our grand prize winner!

“Shopping for the right greenhouse was as important to me as purchasing a vacation home, especially since I knew how much time I’d be spending in it. After checking with several companies, I consulted with a sales rep at FarmTek and felt confident that he could help me make the right choice for my family’s new greenhouse.”
Since FarmTek was founded, it’s been our goal to help make your life easier. We provide the products you need and we also have the expertise to go along with them. Over the past year, we’ve been adding to the educational resources available to you, our customers. These resources include hands-on training at our Technology Center, virtual webinars, a video library and more. If you aren’t already aware of what we have to offer, let me tell you more.
Technology Center: In the past year, we’ve built two greenhouse facilities to serve as demonstration areas to teach the public more about sustainability and locally grown produce. In our 35′ by 48′ greenhouse, we are modeling year-round, in-ground high tunnel production, as well as three different hydroponic systems. Our 80′ by 50′ greenhouse is devoted solely to hydroponic production. Attendees at our hydroponic and fodder workshops gain hands-on experience in these greenhouses.
